Our Journey to Become Kenyas Leading Papaya processor
2014 — Foundation & Early Operations
Kenya Papaya Products Ltd began with a simple vision: to transform the humble papaya into a vehicle for health and prosperity. We were first registered as a business name and started operations in a small MSEA cottage shed in Manyatta, Vihiga County. Despite limited resources, our passion and purpose set the foundation for bigger dreams.
2017 — Growth & Incorporation
After years of grassroots innovation and field experience, we moved into our own dedicated compound in Bendera, Vihiga County. That same year, we transitioned from a business name into a formally incorporated limited company, positioning ourselves for structured growth and investment.
2018 — Certification & Market Entry
This was a breakthrough year. We secured certification from KEBS (Kenya Bureau of Standards), enabling us to officially list our products in formal retail. We were proud to land our first major listing with Chandarana Supermarkets. We also scaled our supply chain by recruiting over 500 papaya farmers from Migori, Nyamira, Homa Bay, and Kakamega counties.
2020 — Major Expansion & Product Innovation
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, we accelerated our expansion. We relocated to a state-of-the-art 5,000 sqm facility within Classic Foods Complex, Juja, equipped with machinery capable of processing 1,000 litres per hour.
This scale-up allowed us to expand our product line from two to seven SKUs, including:
Papaya Juice
Papaya Leaf Extract Capsules
Papaya Leaf Tea
Dried Papaya Slices & Dices
Ganoderma Teabags
Ganoderma Capsules
2023 — National Retail Penetration

Our Business Working Process
We are East Africa’s leading company in manufacturing of papaya products. We jhave a staggered production plan to ensure a consistent supply of papaya fruit all year round

Farmer recruitment, training and contracting
Farmers, are recruited in clusters of 15-20 within a 5km radius. Their farms are mapped, farers trained on good agricultural practices (GAP) and contracted

Input and Agronomy support
Farmers are guided on procurement of planting materials from certified aggregators, farm inputs and they benefit from goernment extension officer visits

Harvesting and Collection
Aggregators survey the farmer clusters, upon assessment, they notify KPPL which cluster is ready for harvesting. Farmers in the clusters are notified on the collection date and they deliver their fruit and leaves to the makeshif collection center of their cluster’s lead farmer. The produce is sorted, weighed and farmers are issued with a goods receipt note

Payments
Payments are made directly to the farmer’s account (mobile money or bank) as per the details specified in their contract document. Payments are made every 30 days from the collection date

Agroprocessing
We then process the papaya fruit, leves and latex into different products. We then distribute them to our retailers, distributors and wholesalers who pay within our agreed time frames
